The Best Graduation Trip Ever!
May 2022
Montego Bay, Jamaica
As a chick that can pay my rent and go on trips, I graduated from the illustrious Howard University May 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in Health Education with minors in Allied Science and Biology. Having gone through college in the pandemic and before I had to pay rent, I decided to spend a week in Montego Bay, Jamaica at the Hotel Riu Montego Bay, an adults-only all inclusive resort and the Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay, a budget, family all-inclusive resort.
I believe in having a vacation that is for me, whether it's on a budget or splurging. For this trip, I was splurging; however having chosen a budget airline, frontier, they altered my returning flight to the following day, so I decided to travel to another budget resort to enjoy the day and see the difference. I am so glad I did because the Holiday Inn provided everything we missed in Riu: an Italian Restaurant, Kayaking & Water sports, and another jerk chicken style. Let's get into the pros and cons of both resorts.

Hotel Riu Montego Bay Resort ☆☆☆☆
Hotel Riu Montego Bay is a luxurious all-inclusive resort located on the beautiful Mahoe Bay. Known for its vibrant nightlife, multiple dining options, and extensive recreational facilities, it caters to both families and adults seeking a dynamic vacation experience.
Pros:
1. Nearby Shops: A 5 minute distance walk will take you to a plaza of shops and restaurants including KFC where you can try Jamaica’s delicious spicy chicken.
2. Nightlife: Features lively entertainment options such as themed parties like the white party, live shows, and a nightclub.
3. All-Inclusive Experience: Comprehensive all-inclusive package covering meals, drinks, and various activities including water slides, pool parties, and exercise classes.
Cons:
1. Crowded Atmosphere: Can get busy, especially during peak seasons, which might detract from the sense of relaxation.
2. Limited Beach Access: The beachfront area is smaller compared to other resorts, potentially limiting beach activities.
3. Lack of Late Night Food: There is a limited selection of late night food only including nachos, hot dogs, and popcorn, which is a major let down of an adult only resort.

Holiday Inn-Catalonia Montego Bay Resort ☆☆☆
Holiday Inn Montego Bay Resort is a family-friendly all-inclusive resort offering comfortable accommodations and a variety of activities. With its relaxed atmosphere, private beach, and dedicated kids' club, it’s ideal for families seeking a fun and laid-back vacation.
Pros:
1. Family-Friendly: Offers a wide range of activities for children, including a kids' club and playground.
2. Private Beach: Features a private, well-maintained beach area with a small island creating a shallow shore, perfect for family relaxation and water activities.
3. Value for Money: Provides good value with an all-inclusive package that includes meals, drinks, and entertainment.
Cons:
1. Dated Decor: Some areas of the resort may feel outdated compared to more modern resorts.
2. Limited Dining Options: The specialty dining, which is included but requires a reservation made the day before, is good; however, the buffet left much to be desired. I am glad I was only there for one day because I would have tired of the buffet options and jerk chicken being my only breakfast and lunch options.
3. Crowded Pool Area: The pool area can become crowded, especially during high occupancy periods, impacting the overall experience.
